lupusintabula - Day 3

Link:25191 Sat Jan 23 00:21:54 2010

The Musketeer [info]gpeefalt drops the last load of wood around the base of the pole, sweat glistening on his brow. The day was chill despite the sunshine. He mutters something apologetic as the Brewer [info]hungryandhollow escorts the calm Weaver [info]the1mouse to the pole. The Brewer hoists the diminutive Weaver onto the wood pile. The Tailor [info]lorriet immediately begins lashing the doomed Weaver to the pole.

The Sheepherd [info]daedalus4096 chuckles as the flames begin to climb toward the Weaver's skirts. "You won't escape this time, Wolf!" The Weaver only answers with an icy glare.

*************************************

The clear night air was filled with howls, sickening crashes, and the smell of burning wood. The red sunrise stains the sky as the Village assembles. Two more of your number are missing.

Sir [info]evilben addresses the gathered Village. "I heard the foul Werewolves last night. They smashed the window and door of the Bakery across from my house. I grabbed my sword and ran inside, but I was too late. The hellbeasts had eaten the Baker [info]amphitrite27."

[info]lorriet steps forward. "I have terrible news. The Shoemaker [info]flipperchaz has died last night. He burned to death in his cottage. I think it was suicide."

Summary: [info]the1mouse and [info]amphitrite27 are DEAD. [info]flipperchaz is DEAD due to inactivity.

well in theory the notary should have comments from the most recent two deaths (since [info]gnatdbug said he wasn't going to put in a last will), the seer should have performed three checks on people, and the priest should know what [info]gnatdbug and [info]the1mouse were . . .

Sonova... Three?! Ick.

Well, we've got to keep things moving, so I may as well be the one to cast the first stone.

Vote [info]Pianorain, because [info]The1mouse is probably missing her blankie in the afterlife. :)

Have we every worked out a theory on when the optimum time for a seer to out himself is? (i.e., when would the risk of being eaten and losing all info unrevealed balance out the opportunity to spy one more night)

I'm kinda distraught. [info]the1mouse is gone, and I thought [info]amphitrite27 might make a good temporary blankie, but she's gone too.

So, I'll go with my next choice and vote [info]stride.

I'd think that, with the NOTARY, the SEER doesn't need to out himself until he spys all the wolves. If he doesn't have all the wolves, he can leave what he has seen in his will. That way we'd have his info. Of course, ANYBODY could claim in their will that they're the SEER, so I'm not sure how useful that would be. Also, ANYBODY could claim to be the NOTARY at any time, and make up fake wills for dead people.

It makes my head spin. I'm still thinking about it though.

GM: when the NOTARY dies, do all wills become public, or just those of dead people? Can you revise your will after the death of the NOTARY?

err no, but seeing as how most games last about 5 to 7 days, we're at about the halfway or 1/3 point . . . if all came out at once, we wouldn't lose them all immediately though . . . and if the bodyguard is still alive he could pick one to protect . . .

Only the dead's Last Wills will ever be revealed. After the Notary dies, all the dead's Last Wills are revealed, the living's Last Wills are destroyed, and no new Last Wills are created.

Here's an idea on how to avoid fake notaries:

When you post a will, post an md5 hash of your will on the public thread.

Nobody do this until we've debated the wisdom of the idea

And here I was debating the merits of public/private key encryption to have one-on-one conversations within the game...

There is a very small chance that [info]giantlaser, [info]hungryandhollow or [info]flipperchaz are wolves . . . unless they on purpose were in active the first day . . . the turn around time for the wolves was also very quick on night one which leads me to believe that all wolves were present . . . now that doesn't mean that one of them (well not [info]flipperchaz since he's now gone) couldn't have purposely been in active all day on the first day just to throw us off, but I kinda doubt it . . .

. . . or are just bored at work . . .

typically, there's one vocal wolf, one quiet wolf, and one in between . . . at least from games past . . . course from the only two other games I've been in, I've been one of the vocal players in both and was not a wolf in one and a wolf (narc) in the other . . . in both cases my posting amount didn't change, however . . .

and no, I don't think it's quite possible you're a wolf . . . I think it's highly unlikely actually . . .

If you look back at the "werewolf telepathy" from one of the early games, you'll see that (loud/quiet/between) is actually a strategy that the wolves planned out.

alright, so I get attacked by the wolves on night 1 and saved by the witch, which you would think would exonerate me . . . yet people like [info]chessiekitty still vote for me usually pointing out that I'm super devious, etc . . . well thank you for your way over rated beliefs that I'm really that bad ass . . . but you realize at this point, it's truly a very low probability that I am a wolf (and if you don't believe me, I believe that with three chances at looking at people, that the seer has most likely looked at me and not found me to be a wolf, which they will point out when and if they finally do come out) . . .

so it makes me wonder about people who ignore all that above and still vote for me . . . now could it be, she thinks that I really am super devious? or is this some wolfy ploy . . .

perhaps we're right and [info]pianorain is a wolf and she's trying to start a bandwagon away from him towards me . . . perhaps she's a wolf and [info]pianorain isn't and she has some other agenda or is tired of trying to second guess the bodyguard . . .

for now, until I think up some other possibility I'll vote [info]pianorain since he's high on my list anyway and lynch [info]chessiekitty tomorrow . . .

After thinking some more, there's no real opposition to the [info]pianorain bandwagon, apart from his own vote, my vote, and [info]chessiekitty's vote. Either we are the three wolves, or the wolves are not contesting [info]pianorain's lynching. The bandwagon is too strong for the wolves to break directly, but could very easily try to build up an alternate bandwagon. I don't see this happening, which leads me to believe [info]pianorain is innocent. Since a wolf's best strategy would be to acquiece, [info]chessiekitty is probably also innocent.

Unvote [info]chessiekitty, I [info]abstain

I've not got much to go on, but...

IF we assume that no wolf has ever voted for another wolf in the final vote tallies for days one and two, as well as the current vote tally (yeah, weak assumption, I know) AND we also assume that everyone killed so far was NOT a wolf (pessimism), we have the following:

http://tinyurl.com/befm3

person chance they're a wolf
[info]hungryandhollow 35%
[info]stride 31%
[info]gpeefalt 28%
[info]lorriet 28%
[info]maniakes 28%
[info]giantlaser 25%
[info]parzanese 25%
[info]evilben 25%
[info]infohazard 24%
[info]chessiekitty 22%
[info]daedalus4096 20%
[info]pianorain 10%

I therefore vote [info]hungryandhollow, even though it is based on some damn flimsy assumptions.

I think you're over analyzing a bit as bandwagons have been know to evaporate within a half hour only to have the next bandwagon disappear as soon as possible . . . it's still early in the day, a wolf could have a vote in on [info]pianorain and be waiting to change it when another bandwagon begins to materialize, or maybe the wolves weren't here at the time of the bandwagon forming . . . things I can conclude from the bandwagon though:

[info]evilben and [info]pianorain are probably not BOTH wolves
[info]giantlaser and [info]pianorain are probably not BOTH wolves

that's really about it . . .

I very well might have missed some posts- but you're the only one that said you were saved, right? The witch didn't confirm, did they? I'm the first to admit that I regularly misunderstand rules, etc. in this game. But couldn't the bodyguard have happened to save the wolves first victim? Very small chance of that, I admit. But when gnaydbug was seer, he spied the three wolves his first three tries ( not that it did much good).

If this has already been worked out by everyone before- I'm sorry for being dense.

I wish the bodyguard had saved me instead as then the witch wouldn't have used up their healing potion already . . .

and I'm the only one who needs to have said I was saved . . . the witch doesn't need to confirm (and thus reveal themselves) as if I was lying, the witch would have already poisoned me last night . . . yet I wasn't . . .

and I don't think you're that dense . . . which is why you've now moved up my werewolf list . . .

Since I apparently missed something in yesterday's posts I unvote [info]parzanese.

I can't jump on any bandwagons without being suspicious (though they're bandwagons because so many other people are on them- they can't all be wolves).

vote infohazrd

You've apparently never been pregnant (yes, I've given birth, but now I'm sleep deprived as well as being hormonally imbalanced). And apparently you've never paid attention to my posts in your games. When it comes to this game, I am that dense.

It's probably best to lynch me just to get me out of the picture. You'd probably have a better chance of winning.

Nevermind, I didn't look at the actual URL that was pointing to. Good Lord!

ok, how'd you come to that conclusion?

I'm not arguing it though . . .

[info]Evilben was the first person to join the pile on [info]pianorain. For reasons already stated, I don't think [info]pianorain is a wolf (because he's getting lynched way too easily), so that makes [info]evilben look wolfy to me.

[info]Giantlaser is also a suspect, but #2 seems wolfier than #3. If I have time tonight, I'll review past games to see if that premise holds up.

You vote for me in every game.

In high school there was this girl who liked to pick on me. I perceived it as an older, gender reversed version of a little boy dipping a girls pig tails in the ink well. So I asked her out. Great sex, and tons of it. But man was she crazy.

What wolfish thing have I done? Or do you just think I'm cute? :)

Wow- you were in school when they had ink wells?

I don't have any feelings about [info]pianorain, plus, apparently voting bandwagons is suspicious. So I picked someone who had no votes. Figured I should pick someone I know. I hate lynching strangers.

And I'm not answering that question. :)

Crap, did I wear my suspicious hat or something? I'm still not a wolf. Wish I had some good news so that I could convince you.

you people baffle me . . .

I'm not so suicidal as to try and eat myself on the first night in the hopes that the witch would save me . . .

and no matter how you try to spin it, there's no way you can state that the witch did NOT save me on the first night . . . for if I was lying, the witch would have surely POISONED me now and I'd be dead . . . even in the remote chance that the witch was [info]the1mouse and she HAD NOT saved me, she would have said something before she got lynched . . .

finally, with three nights having passed, I can safely assume that with everyone suspecting me, witches saving me, and wolves eating me, that the SEER has probably looked at me and found me to NOT be a WOLF . . . and if he or she is still alive I'm sure they'll point this out when and if they come out . . .

how many damn times do I have to repeat myself . . .
